Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Pkwy
On our ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway Mabry's Mill was one of our favorite stops. It was built by Ed Mabry. Mabry Mill was originally built in 1910, and the historic water-powered grist mill, sawmill and nearby blacksmith shop provide you with a view of pioneer life along the Parkway. Self-guided tours include a sorghum mill, soap making kettle, and an "old time" whiskey still. The building consists of a grist mill, a sawmill, and a wood working shop. All of it was powered by the water wheel. This is a fascinating place and is a must stop on the BRP. The nearby gift shop and restaurant is also a place you will want to visit.
